Mercury appears to retrograde three times a year for just over three weeks each time. Of course, it does not really go backwards in its orbit, but it appears to us earthlings to be doing so. Since we react to appearances, this is usually a good time to fix the past but not commit to too much to the future.
Here are my rules for navigating Mercury retrograde cycles. Always keep in mind that details can be unclear so whether booking a ticket for an event or trip, make sure that the dates, time, price, and place are all perfectly clear and check everything at least twice. If commencing something new, defer some important decisions until more towards the end of the cycle and have numerous discussions about the understandings before signing any documents. This particular cycle started roughly on November 25th and ends December 15th, the exact time and date depend on your time zone.
This is a good time to make repairs to the house, appliances, computers, car, etc. It is also wise to back up your devices that have data. Fixing damaged relationships may take tact, sincerity, and will power, but this is the time to try to mend hurt feelings and misunderstandings.
For bloggers and podcasters, this is the cycle for editing, but not for launching anything completely new. If shopping, check your receipts and keep them in case you end up needing to return something.
When Mercury is retrograde during holiday seasons, keep in mind that many people are put on board who have little or no training. This would include clerks in stores, delivery people, and even extra people taken on board to recover from storms and power outages. Try to anticipate a little more frustration and roll gently with the challenges.
