I remember when I first heard this charming piece. It was in Hawaii in the 1970s and I told my neighbors I was in love. They were disappointed to find out it was this piece of music. I have been looking for “the perfect” presentation for a couple of months, everything from a kalimba to a cabaret performance in France, but after listening to pianos, guitars, cellos, violins, and full orchestras, it seemed like the most authentic was the most ancient, i.e., circa 1680.
For the record, Johann Pachelbel was from Nuremberg, and was an organist and prolific composer. The Canon in D was originally scored for three violins and basso continuo, played today by a cello.
this piece evokes a feeling akin to the genesis of creation... the genesis of life.. Powerful.
When I was attending community college, I choreographed to this particular piece of music. So beautiful…
